Rosh Hashanah Socal Jewish Community Readies To Usher In 5769

Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah, the trigger on Jewish years 5769 calendar, will begin at sunset Monday with the blowing of the Shofar, a ram horn. Jews in Southland and throughout the world will gather in synagogues, homes and other places Monday night for the first day of Rosh Hashanah - the two-day holiday that marks the Jewish New Year. The feast begins a 10-day period of penance and contemplation on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, the most solemn and sad day on the Jewish calendar.
